La Grave-la-MeijeIn between larches and eternal snows, the country of La Meije is an invitation to the discovery of a spectacular mountain scenery. At some 4500 feet high, La Grave holds its sturdy stone houses with slate roofs along narrow streets climbing to the top of the village. From ND de l’Assomption, the view stretches to the massif des Ecrins, with the peak of La Meije (12000 feet). Its mythical northern side made La Grave a famous spot for rock climbing, and in the cemetery next to the church, many tombs bear witness to those who died in accidents. Since telepherics to the glaciers were introduced in the region, the village attracts skiers. What to discover?• Church Notre-Dame. • Glaciers de la Meije and grotte de glace (3 200 m): everyday from the end of June till September 1st, and from X-Mas til 1st of May |
